Catrine Councillor Jimmy Kelly dies after short illness
16 JanuaryLong-serving Catrine Councillor Jimmy Kelly has died after a short illness, East Ayrshire Council have announced.
The council announced the passing of the East Ayrshire Councillor, who represented the Ballochmyle ward which includes Catrine.
A statement on the council’s website announced: “East Ayrshire Council is deeply saddened to announce the death of Councillor Jimmy Kelly who died early on Saturday morning following a short illness. Councillor Kelly had been unwell recently and was due shortly to undergo treatment.
“His sudden passing will come as a great shock to friends, colleagues and staff who have enjoyed working with him over the years, since the inception of East Ayrshire Council and before that, with Cumnock and Doon Valley District Council. Our thoughts are with Councillor Kelly’s family at this difficult time.”
Councillor Kelly was first elected to East Ayrshire Council when it was formed in April 1995. He was appointed as Chair of Housing Committee in June of that year, and he served on that committee until May 2007. He also was a member of the Minerals Trust, Chair of the Coalfield Alliance (formerly Coalfield Communities Campaign) and the National Association of Councillors.
